Conservation Poster Contest Invites Dane
County Students to Showcase Creativity

Youth in Dane County who like to make art and help the environment can participate in the 2022 Conservation Awareness Poster Contest. The theme of this year’s contest is “Healthy Soil: Healthy Life” and students in kindergarten through 12th grade can submit posters.

The annual poster contest is sponsored by the Dane County Land & Water Resources Department. Poster entries will be judged in five separate age divisions based on grade level. Prizes are awarded to the top three entries in each age group.

Young artists can use almost any media including paint, crayon, marker, colored pencil, or paper. Posters should be hand drawn, not computer generated. Other guidelines are available at the poster contest website.

But that’s not all.

We went to the website and found outstanding educational resources in formats easily accessible for families and educators. There are student booklets available for all grade levels. You can learn a lot about the importance of healthy soil, where our food comes from, and about conservation. Then student artists can use their talents create a poster highlighting these themes.

Posters should be submitted by Friday, January 7. So, it’s a perfect project for over winter break. Links to soil conservation info, poster ideas, and tips are also available to help guide participating students.

You can also call and talk to staff directly if you have questions. Classroom teachers and community groups are encouraged to contact Erin Moran , Conservation Outreach Specialist for Dane County.

At Simpson Street we love hands-on science learning. And we enjoy making art. Here is a chance to do both at the same time.
