Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. : From Athletic Child to Gifted Soccer Star


Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. is a Brazilian soccer player. Influenced by his father who was a professional soccer player, he started to play for the youth league, Santos FC, when he was 11 years old. .

After three years playing with Santos , Real Madrid wanted Neymar to play for them because they were impressed with his skills. However, Santos convinced Neymar to stay by paying him more money.

In 2009, Neymar impressed the fans with winning the FIFA Best Young Player award. By 2010, his reputation as a star player was cemented when he helped Santos become a competitive team and win the Copa do Brazil championship. Neymar won the FIFA Player of the Year award in 2010, and continued to win the award for more consecutive years.

In 2011, Neymar was awarded the FIFA Goal of the Year. However, around this time, people began to judge him for having a kid out of wedlock. This marked the beginning of the media’s interest in Neymar’s personal life.

In May of 2013, the young professional announced his move to Europe to play for the Spanish powerhouse—FC Barcelona.

When Neymar played in the World Cup 2014, Brazil went up against Colombia. Neymar was injured by Juan Zuniga, and was not able to play for the rest of the game. However, after 3 or 4 months, Neymar returned to play soccer with FC Barcelona.

Neymar’s career has transformed right before the public’s eyes. Starting out as a youth player, he has grown to be on of the most popular and successful professional soccer players of today.
