Why We Need to Protect Tigers

Did you know people kill tigers every day even though it is against the law? In China, for instance, at least one tiger is killed each day. This is largely because tigers are sold for a lot of money to the Chinese medicinal market.

Tigers live in forests and plains. They are found in parts of Asia, from Russia to India and from Sumatra to China. A century ago, there were 100,000 tigers in the world. Now, only 6,000 remain.

Tigers are in very serious danger. Some people are taking measures to protect tigers, though. Care for the Wild International is a British group that sets up safe places called reserves where tigers can stay safe from hunters.
