Hoping to garner support for the national “buy local” movement, Dane Buy Local and the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA) have declared June 27 through July 7, 2014 “Independents Week.” This week-long national campaign will reflect on economic democracy, local entrepreneurship, diversity, and community.
“This year Dane Buy Local celebrates its tenth anniversary of supporting local businesses. We invite Wisconsin residents to help us celebrate our inaugural Independents Week by participating in activities and in-store promotions offered by our member businesses and organizations throughout the week,” said Colin Murray, Executive Director of Dane Buy Local.
Supporters of the buy local movement cite the many benefits small businesses offer. Among these is the ability of local business owners to give back to and connect with individuals in their communities.
Independents Week will begin with a press conference on Friday, June 27 at 11:30 a.m. in the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center. Sponsored by the Dane County Credit Union and Heartland Credit Union, member businesses involved in the week-long campaign will also provide various activities and special discounts for customers.
“As citizens we play an integral role every day in helping sustain a business climate full of diversity and individual choice. Together we shape the identity and future of our communities. I invite you to add your support by participating in member events and promotions,” said Murray.
