SSFP Editor Recognized for Excellence In Reporting

by Taylor Kilgore, age 17

Our very own Assistant Editor, Aarushi Agni was recently recognized for her reporting for the The Daily Cardinal, a student-run daily newspaper at UW-Madison. Every year the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) holds its Mark of Excellence Competition to honor the best student journalists. Aarushi is ranked among the top three in the region for “General News Reporting.”

Journalistic entries are judged by a long list of criteria that ranges from accuracy and completeness to adherence to the SPJ Code of Ethics.

Aarushi served as Diversity Editor for The Daily Cardinal for her fall semester 2011 and all of 2012. The award-winning article is a story about the controversy surrounding Columbus Day and its impact on the American Indian students on campus. Aarushi is a UW-Madison graduate with degrees in Biology and International Studies.

We at the Simpson Street Free Press are all proud of her accomplishments and wish her the best.
