Project Staff and Writers

Enjoyiana Nururdin

Enjoyiana Nururdin is a sophomore at UW Madison studying journalism and Spanish. She worked at Simpson Street Free Press as a columnist and teen editor during high school and now serves as a writing instructor for SSFP middle school students. During high school, Enjoyiana served as the executive editor of The Lance, La Follette High School's student newspaper.

Deney Li

Deney Li has worked at Simpson Street Free Press for three years and is currently a teen editor. She is entering her senior year at Madison Memorial High School. Deney also works for her school's student newspaper, The Sword and Shield, as an editor and columnist.

Taylor Kilgore

Taylor Kilgore is a graduate of UW Madison’s School of Journalism. She has worked at Simpson Street Free Press since middle school and is currently the managing editor.

Michelle Chi

Michelle Chi is entering her senior year at Middleton High School. She has worked for Simpson Street Free Press for two years and is a writer, teen editor, and multi-media journalist.

Cris Cruz

Cris Cruz is a Simpson Street Free Press veteran. He started at SSFP during 5th grade and worked at our Capital Newspapers location while in middle school. He also writes for our La Prensa Libre de Simpson Street publication. Cris works as a newsroom floor manager and close-reading specialist at two SSFP locations.

Amie Kabera

Amie Kabera has worked for Simpson Street Free Press for five years. She is a current teen editor and book club coordinator. Amie is entering her senior year at La Follette High School and also works for her school’s student newspaper, The Lance.

Christy Zheng

Christy Zheng is entering her sophomore year at McFarland High School. She has worked at Simpson Street Free Press since 5th grade. Christy specializes in science writing and helps coordinate our ongoing “Science of Wisconsin’s Environment” series.

Sarah Useche

Sarah Useche is in her second year at Madison College, where she participates in the school’s Scholars of Promise program. Sarah began working at Simpson Street Free Press during middle school and now works as an editor for La Prensa Libre de Simpson Street and at our Sennett Middle School Free Press location.

Leila Fletcher

Leila Fletcher was born in Hungary, and English is her second language. Leila has worked at Simpson Street Free Press since 6th grade and is currently a teen editor and math tutor. She is entering her junior year at Madison West High School.

James Kramer

James Kramer is executive director and head janitor at Simpson Street Free Press.

Anna Welch

Anna Welch is a recent graduate of UW Madison where she studied Journalism and Gender and Women’s Studies. This summer and fall, she spearheads several SSFP investigations and examines local education issues. Anna also runs book clubs for middle school students at the SSFP South Towne location.

Bri Karega

Bri Karega is a student at the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she serves as the chair of the Educational Equity Committee for the Law and Advocacy for Racial Justice (LAARJ) organization. She works with high school students at Simpson Street Free Press and helps them conduct research and prepare articles for publication.

Mckenna Kohlenberg

Mckenna Kohlenberg has worked for Simpson Street Free Press for about five years as a Literacy Specialist and Editor. Mckenna is a student at the University of Wisconsin Law School. She is also earning her Masters in Educational Policy and Analysis.

Dilame Lindmeier

Dilame Lindmeier is a senior at Oregon High School. She has worked for Simpson Street Free Press for two years. Dilame plans to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.

Ben Reddersen

Ben Reddersen came to Simpson Street Free Press through a service learning assignment while attending UW Madison. Ben has degrees in computer science, math, and elementary education. He currently serves as the design and layout editor for five SSFP publications.

Brandon Alvarez

Brandon Alvarez recently graduated from La Follette High School and will attend Madison College. Brandon is a newsroom floor manager and bilingual close-reading specialist at Simpson Street Free Press. He writes in English and Spanish for three SSFP publications. Brandon also organizes SSFP book clubs for third, fourth and fifth graders.
