15th Annual Harvest Moon Festival Has Accessible Fun for Everyone

Come one, come all to the 15th annual Harvest Moon Festival! It’s being held at the gorgeous Lussier Family Heritage Center on October 4th from 6-9pm, and features many interesting events this year. From the torch-lit prairie trail to the silent auction held inside, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy.

This year the Harvest Moon festival features events like the Howlin’ Bonfire where everyone can sit around and enjoy the heat from the fire and make s’mores. The festival also includes nature-based events for younger kids, including live critters, a kids tree climb, Smoky Bear, telescopes, tractors, and so much more. They can discover the natural world with all of the hands-on exhibits inside the Lussier Family Heritage Center and outside on a moonlit prairie trail.

To increase accessibility, AccessAbility Wisconsin will have two all-terrain wheelchairs available for use if needed. (Please call 608.224.3606 if you wish to reserve one) Inside the Heritage Center, the Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area will host a silent auction from 5:30 - 8pm featuring autumnal, locally sourced items. Enjoy live music as the Friends offer chili, homemade pie, s’mores, and kettle corn that’s popped onsite. Rain or shine the Heritage Center is planning on throwing the event anyway! Almost all of the Harvest Moon activities can be accommodated to the weather so don’t let that stop you from coming.

The proceeds of the festival will go to benefiting environmental programming and park improvements within the 2,500-acre Capital Springs Recreation Area located in Madison and Fitchburg. Admission this year is $5.00 per person, with ages 5 and under admitted for free; military kids also get in free with a parent’s military I.D., and there is a free annual membership with admission! So join us this year at 3101 Lake Farm Road in Madison, WI to partake in all the family-fun events that are offered. Click here to download the event flyer!
